Hmmm. This sounds very promising.

Several theories: Jerry (I hope we get to know more about him after the mention of his parents kicking him out of the house) or hunky Danny (the long-haired dude who interviews Kevin before the WitMasters contest).

Dilton?

Or another guy we don't know about yet?
Wouldn't it be nice if he was a kinda-dorky, chunky student? The kind of kid who thinks "Gee, Kevin's so popular and handsome, he can have his pick. He'd never give me a second look. But I can dream, can't I?"

"The girls may have found the perfect boy to get their mind’s off Archie, though – Valerie’s brother!"
Whooah! How'd I miss that?! That's even MORE awesome. For "mainstream" white America, inter-racial dating is fairly OK when it's white guy with an "other" (Asian, Black, Latina) girl. But an African-American guy double-dating two white girls is another story. Go on, Betty and Ronnie! :)

Comment on The Worth of Viktor Krum: Nice guys finish last by J

I disagree with your analysis. I do not believe that Viktor Krum was a "nice guy who finishes last". Rather, he is an arrogant alpha male who is so accustomed to attention from the opposite sex that he has convinced himself that Hermione as well must automatically be in love with him, and has too much pride to consider anything else. However, Hermione is a smart cookie, a cut above the rest, and while she likely finds Krum to be physically handsome (as any woman should) due to his strength, stature, and confidence, she sees through his empty personality which carries a low chance for deep emotional connection. Krum's style of romantic advances is only rudimentary at best, although it may be sufficient to woo most other girls dazzled by superficial beauty. Hermione, having spent considerable time around shy but compassionate nerds like Ron and Harry, understands and relates well with their characteristics. She even admits to Harry and Ron that she finds Krum to be repulsive. Even the professors at Hogwarts, concerned about Harry's chances for survival in the Goblet of Fire championship, refer to the other contestants (which includes Krum) as "meat".

In the end, Krum is just meat, and everyone but the naive schoolgirls knows it.

Comment on REVIEW: Kevin Keller #1 by TulitaPepsi

Great, well-considered review as always. I must admit that after the unexpectedly powerful "Veronica presents KEVIN KELLER #4" I was a bit dissapointed with the relatively simple, guarded storyline of KEVIN KELLER #1.

My few quibbles are simple. The first four pages (of Kevin 'breaking the fourth wall' to address the readers directly) seem to have been used to introduce those unaware of his 'Veronica presents' mini-series: "For those of you not familiar with me, I'm Kevin Keller!" , But to long-time KK fans, they don't tell us anything we don't already know about him (I did think the panel of Kevin peeking in at his dad and mom in decidedly lusty embrace was rather interesting). And I thought it was curious that we don't know anything about Kevin's date Brian (or even get a good look at him) until page 19. And most importantly, Kevin stating "I was asked on my first date! That's right, I've never been on a REAL date before!" is expressed without a trace of teenage puppy-love sheepishess or excitement, with nary a mention to the reader who the date is! I would have loved to had Kevin confide in the reader something along the lines of "This guy Brian asked me out! He's REALLY cute! I was so nervous..I couldn't believe he asked me! But I don't want the gang to know yet, especially Ronnie! She's bound to make a crazy big deal about it." or even better, to have a flashback panel or two of Brian meeting Kevin and asking him out.

Kevin's shopping spree with Reggie was indeed jaw-dropping. Who knew that International Male had a branch in Riverdale?! It could have gone on for a page or two more. I loved Col. Keller's amused crack (which would be over-the-heads of most of Kevin's youngest fans) that "There's a Disco in 1978 waiting for you!" Likewise the Retro Fashion page featuring Betty and Veronica in 1940s hair and pin-up outfits a la Ann Miller and Betty Grable with Kevin dressed like Jon Voight in MIDNIGHT COWBOY may be another tip-of-the-hat to older audiences like myself. I must admit that I do like the fashion pages, and hope to see some kids fashion ideas in the next issue.

But these quibbles are tiny. I am hopeful we'll see more of the good writing and interesting plot development of #3 and #4 of the mini-series in KEVIN KELLER #2.

But the film's made in the 1980s. Even though it is set in the 1930s, it's still offensive. Even if it was a film that was made in the 1930s, it'd still be offensive to me. It sounds like you need a history lesson on how Hollywood has ALWAYS mistreated minorities.

So ... to recap your 21 century PC sensitivities are bothered by a 1930's time capsule pulp fiction film? Sounds like you need a hug.

This is one of my favorite "women in prison" flicks. Good call about the lesbian subtext in regards to Ida Lupino's character. Two of the other standout performers in the movie are Jan Sterling as Brenda and the female inmate who does impersonations (I think her name was Dottie).

Great article! being a middle-easterner myself, it's nice to find some characters I can relate to or be proud of in western or eastern cartoons.

Don't forget "Quatre Raberba Winner", from Gundam Wing.. he's a funny one, because we're always depicted as being black haired, dark skinned people, but he's pale, with blonde hair. Believe it or not, we do have some blondes in certain areas on the middle east!
