The Box Office Battle is back, and we have a clear winner! (Not only in monetary stats, but also in my heart:) )

I’ll start with the winner this week! Megamind is at number one in the b.o. stats, with $46,016,833. The film also ranked at 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is pretty modest. Most critics will agree that the film is a solid front-runner in animation this year, and some are even saying it’s the best animated movie this year. Critics also say that even though the film deals with the superhero genre and the bad guy-going-good scenario that has been done before, there are enough twists and turns for audiences of all ages to feel more than satisfied. Perhpas I’m being a bit biased, since I loved the film, as you read in my lengthy(and SPOILER HEAVY!) review/analysis.

“Like Kraft Mac & Cheese or your favorite old sweats with the Duct Tape waistband, familiarity can be comforting. Megamind doesn’t break any new ground other than being the rare family flick that the whole family can enjoy.”–Richmond.com

“In this refreshing twist on a familiar format, director Tom McGrath combines flawless 3-D animation with a bevy of comedic talent to craft an entertaining adventure with plenty of smart, grown-up laughs.” –San Diego Union-Tribune

“A complex story with very sophisticated forward momentum… It’s about what makes people a hero or villain, and the answer is not just simply one is bullied and the other is revered.”–Screen Junkies

Due Date is number two on the b.o. charts, grossing $32,689,406. On Rotten Tomatoes, it only rated at 39%. Many critics cited that the biggest flaw this movie has is that it didn’t live up to the expectations set by its predecessor, The Hangover.

“A relentlessly-offensive bottom-feeder of no redeeming social value which I learned in law school is the Supreme Court’s definition of obscene.”–TheLoop21.com

“Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis try to make the most of a film devoted more to a series of silly situations than to believable interactions and plot.”–Reel Talk Movie Reviews

“Most comedy threads the needle between humor and discomfort, but the noisy and curiously bleak Due Date jabs that needle right in your eye. Repeatedly.”–Metro Times

For Colored Girls came in at number three, grossing $19,497,324. Critics feel that the movie, based on the 1975 critically-acclaimed book and play by Ntozake Shange, lost a lot of the edge of the original due to director/writer Tyler Perry’s soap-operatic writing.

“For Colored Girls is so shamelessly terrible it would make a great midnight hoot-fest, if you had the stomach to laugh at Shange or some of the best (and most underused) actresses of their generation…”–New York Magazine

“An ambitious adaptation of an iconic feminist work and bold experiment for a straightforward filmmaker who’s historically struggled to balance comedy with melodrama.”–Moving Pictures Magazine

“… Tyler Perry at his best, delivering at last on his promise …”–Sacramento News and Review
