DVD REVIEW: “Night Court, The Complete Fourth Season” is just like how you remember it

Back when I was a little kid, I watched a few episodes of Night Court, not realizing what I was watching or why people were laughing. But, even without knowing the jist of the jokes, I still liked it. I’ve recently received the entire fourth season; I requested it for the sheer nostalgia factor and the hope that I was now old enough to get the jokes. However, since it’s an ’80s show, I still don’t get some of the jokes because times have changed so much. But, the show still has the same fun punch it had all those years ago.

The synopsis involves the goings-on at Criminal Court, Part II, State of New York. In this season, opinionated bailiff Roz Russell (Marsha Warfield) is added to the crazy ensemble-featuring the wacky Judge Stone (Harry Anderson) randy lawyer Dan (John Larroquette, in his third of four Emmy®-winning seasons for Outstanding Supporting Actor in comedy), public defender Christine (Markie Post), bailiff Bull (Richard Moll) and court clerk Mac (Charles Robinson)

One thing I noticed was that the show, like The Golden Girls, a show from the same era, can become a lot more daring than you would think an ’80s show would be, what with addressing sex head-on, being utterly ridiculous and fearless with jokes, etc. The 22 episodes, featured on four disks, might spark a lot of different memories for you than it did for me, but overall, nostalgia is the key draw to get this disk set.
