Hello, all. Even though I write all of these posts from the heart, it’s rare when I just sit down and, as the old-school ’70s folk used to say, rap to you guys. I thought I’d outline the direction in which Moniqueblog is going:
This website has always been about entertainment, and it’ll stay that way. The main focus has always been on movies, but due to my school schedule, along with all of my side projects coupled with the lack of transportation I always have, there’s not much time to go to the theater, at least, not as much time as I’d like for there to be. Also, there’s a lot of other things I talk about on this site, but I feel there should be more cohesion throughout the site(thus the new header explaining the site a bit better). Therefore, I’ve narrowed my site down to these things:
- Movie analysis and lists. This site will still remain about movies, but it’ll focus more on the study of movies and the film genre as a whole. I love writing regular “see it, skip it” types of reviews, and those will pop up from time to time since I usually make time to go see the tentpole movies, but the majority of movie talk that will go on here will be about box-office stats (a new segment called “Box Office Battle“, which premiered this week), top 5 or top 10 lists about movies, and examining how certain aspects of movies relate to us as Americans and how they explore our culture (quite a few essays and lists can be read on the Movie Analysis page).
- Cartoon news and analysis. Cartoons hold a very special place in my heart; they tie very closely with movies in that regard. I’ve talked about cartoons in the past, but I plan on talking about them more regularly.
- Archie Comics. Out of all of the comics I’ve read, one of my true favorites are Archie Comics. Because they resonate with me, I’ll review them much more frequently on my site, as well as examine aspects of the book in the vein of “Analyzing Jughead“.
- Race in American media and culture as seen through movies, cartoons, and comics. I already do this to a degree with a lot of my reviews, analysis, and essays on characters in books, comic books, movies, and cartoons. I plan on concentrating on this even more in the time to come.
I hope this helps lay out the ground work for what Moniqueblog is going to be like in the future. Thanks for enjoying the ride thus far.
