The latest shocker from the Archie camp is their latest minisode that involves Archie romancing yet another woman-a woman most of us wouldn’t have been pegged as Archie’s type-Valerie from Josie and the Pussycats. I’m not sure how I feel about this:
On one hand: I’m all for interracial relationships. For me, that’s one of the ultimate forms of acceptance and open-mindedness. And it’ll be in the handful of times Archie Comics, Inc. has utilized this idea-the latest being when Cheryl Blossom dated a black guy on some version of a “Bachelorette” type comic story. And at least through Valerie, I can live out my idea that if Chuck and Nancy ever split up, Nancy might be able to tame Archie in a way Betty and Veronica can’t (how she would do that I have no idea). But…
On the other hand: What the heck do they have in common?! Archie is an average student at best-Valerie’s much smarter than him. And even though intelligence might not be a weighing factor for some, think about her career. Is Archie going be in a kept man-type status? Will Valerie lose interest/not have enough time for Archie? I mean, let’s be serious-even though the plot involves The Archies and The Pussycats co-headlining a tour, we all know that The Archies are the opening act, not any band on the same level as The Pussycats. They don’t have that much clout.
What do you think? Is this a match made in Heaven or something far worse? (make sure to pick up the first issue April 21 (comic book stores) and May 4 (newsstands))

a horrific storyline (because of implausibility, not interracialness). made me cry a little bit on the inside.
