For a while now, I’ve been promoting my new endeavor, an online book called Polite Society. The short version of the story is that it’s about some young adults living in 1750s Sussex, England, but it’s much more involved in that. Much more involved. I’ve been providing sneak peeks of the story . Today, I’ve provided a page on Moniqueblog where you can enter the site (either click the link or the picture above), and below is a look at the main characters. Amelie Vance
Age: 18
Amelie Vance’s main problem is the fact that she is in love with one of the servants of her household, Emilio Cuarón. While Amelie and Emilio have a healthy (and adorable) relationship, Amelie’s peers rate her as becoming potentially damaged in the social world if she continues seeing someone below her stature.
Emilio Cuarón
Age: 20
Emilio Cuarón is a stable boy in the Vance household. Even though he is the happy boyfriend of the rich Amelie Vance, he is far from being a “kept man”. He is Amelie’s better half and believes they will eventually be married. However, his status might get in the way.
Joshua Shaw
Age: 21
Joshua Shaw is Amelie’s older cousin. Even though he is twenty-one, he has already conditioned himself into a stodgy mindset. He is heavily concerned that his cousin will miss out on grand opportunities if she doesn’t start acting like a proper upper-class adult.
Daniel Stewart
Age: 21
Daniel Stewart is Joshua Shaw’s best friend. Having grown up together due to their fathers’ friendship, Daniel knows every side of Joshua. However, while Joshua thinks of Daniel as a brother, Daniel thinks of Joshua as something more.
Rachel Drew
Age: 19
Rachel Drew and Daniel Stewart became friends from taking violin lessons together. Rachel is on the outskirts of the group; her family is more secluded and of older money than the families of E.A., Joshua, and Amelie. She also isn’t as outgoing some of the others and believes herself to be just average. She’s surprised when she’s swept off her feet by a charming man who she feels is out of her league.
Devinder Chopra
Age: 22
Devinder Chopra is a man who is planted in the traditions of Karnataka, India. He has been groomed by his father to take over the family textile business and uphold the family name. When Devinder falls in love with Rachel, his father sees this as a threat to the Chopra line, and Devinder must choose between pleasing his father and living his own life.
Abinhav Chopra
Age: 20
Abinhav is Devinder’s younger, more fun-loving, and flamboyant brother. He’s the baby of the family, and because he has been coddled his whole life, he doesn’t understand how to take on responsibility.
Guangli Yin
Age: 20
Guangli originally came to England because of an invitation, but stays there to run away from his increasingly difficult life back home in Beijing. While in England, he becomes entangled with E.A., who is trying to increase her social standing.
Roosevelt White
Age: 21
Roosevelt (nicknamed “Rose” by his friends) is a congenial man who gets along with everyone and has everyone’s respect. He is also E.A.’s boyfriend. While he thinks they are on solid ground, she has gotten bored with his chivalry and wants to find someone new.
Elizabeth Ann Storey
Age: 21
Elizabeth-Ann (called “E.A.” by her friends) is an ambitious girl who wants to be the queen bee of Sussex society. She’s bored with her life and her boyfriend (both of which are perfectly fine) and sets her eye on Guangli.
